As part of the rising Mobile Connect service announced by the GSMA at Mobile World Congress this week, Ooredoo Group continues to drive its successful trials across three markets in its global footprint - Indonesia, Qatar and Algeria.
Following the successful Indonesian trial with Indosat in December 2014, Ooredoo and the GSMA continue to work to establish Mobile Connect as an industry standard. Mobile Connect enables customers to create and manage a universal identity that will securely authenticate them and allow them to safely access mobile and digital services via their mobile phones, through greater privacy and robust data protection.
Dr. Nasser Marafih, Group CEO, Ooredoo, said: “Ensuring the security of our customers’ personal data and privacy is our first priority. Providers in industries such as e-commerce, banking, health and digital entertainment, as well as e-government portals are benefiting from Mobile Connect authentication, enabling stronger security for consumers. The continued success reflected in the extension of this Mobile Connect ecosystem demonstrates that we are here to support customers in their quest for safer and more secure access to mobile and other digital services.
The service, as announced by the GSMA this week, now includes 17 mobile network operators (MNOs) who have launched the service in 13 countries, with plans for additional launches and beta trials to follow in 2015.
Initial trials in Indonesia introduced customers of Indosat’s e-commerce market place, Cipika, to a highly secure and convenient way to purchase regional food, handicrafts and products online. The service will expand into other verticals such as mobile phones, electronic gadgets and digital entertainment vouchers.
Partnering with Ericsson which provided the underlying platform for digital authentication, Ooredoo customers in Qatar and Algeria through a recent pilot program can now also access self-care functions by Mobile Connect authentication, instead of entering in a username and password.
In partnership with GSMA, Indosat along with Ooredoo Qatar and Algeria ran live trials of the service at Mobile World Congress 2015 at The GSMA Innovation City to showcase the truly global service and interoperability between operators and service providers.
